        CAUSES

RELIGION

Religion was one of the major causes of the British Civil War.It was part of a disagreement throughout Europe between Catholicism and Protestantism.

(Catholics believe that the Catholic church is the first and original Christian church. Protestants believe Christianity is being spoken through the bible. So they basically believe in the same things but they do it a bit differently).

DEMOCRACY VERSUS MONARCHY

The British people wanted to elect a leader rather than being told what to do by King Charles I and The Divine Right of Kings. The king disliked this option and rejected the idea. The citizens represented by parliament, were furious about this and fought back against King Charles I and the royal family. There were battles as a result.

MONEY

King Charles' father King James I had spent a lot of the money while he was in power so that led to insufficient funds for his son/successor. Since the parliament didn't want to grant Charles the money, he raised tax prices to get more money, the citizens' money. The people were furious and demanded the tax price be lowered.
