King Charles I gets married.

1626

Parliament dismissed George Villiers, command of English forces in Europe. Furious, King Charles dismisses parliament.

1628

King Charles recalls parliament.

 

Petition of right is signed by the king. 

1629

King Charles dismisses parliament.

9 MPs were arrested by King Charles.

1633

King Charles is crowned king of Scotland, now ruling over multiple nations.

1634-1636

A ship tax is put in to place by King Charles to fund the Navy. (A ship tax is when coastal towns pay taxes to fund ship-related things.)

1640

Oliver Cromwell was elected to parliament for the second time. He publicly criticised Charles' taxes and his corruption. 

1642

Civil war starts.

The vital port and fortress of Portsmouth is taken by Parliament. 

1646

Charles I surrenders to the Scottish rebels.

Charles I's capital, Oxford, surrenders to parliament forces. 

1643-45

A whole bunch of battles.

1647

The Parliamentarian forces debate on whom should take over.

Charles I gets imprisoned by the parliament. 

Charles I escapes imprisonment.

1648

King Charles recaptured.

1649

A new parliament called The Rump Parliament began and did things such as making acts of parliament without the kings aproval.

King Charles is found guilty of  treason by the high court.

King Charles I is executed by beheading.
