There was many casualties during the civil war. About 34,000 Parliamentarians died, 50,000 Royalists died, and about 100,000 civilians died from war-related diseases. And King Charles I was convicted for treason and eventually was beheaded.  

NEW LEADERSHIP

After King Charles got executed, Oliver Cromwell and the parliament took control and created a new type of republic called the Commonwealth. At first the parliament ruled the country, but in 1653 Cromwell dismissed the parliament and ruled under his nickname 'Protector'.
